Are you planning on moving yourself?
If you don't have any time constraints and are only moving a small amount of stuff i.e. from a bedsit or small flat, it could be achievable.
Hiring a suitable size van (Typically a Luton) for the day with fuel moved locally should cost less than £100.00 so that's very attractive if money is a bit tight. You will also need to source all of your packing materials yourself; it is possible to get boxes for free from supermarkets but the average mover will still pay over £100.00 to get all the packaging needed for the move.
How are you going to get everything to and from the van? you'll be surprised at the amount of calls we get from people whose mates haven't turned up and if they do turn up, what if they break something, replacing a TV could cost more than if you used a professional removal company in the first place.
Pros. Cheap Removal
Cons. Most stressful option. Requires the most work, effort, and planning. Moving yourself is also uninsurable so it could end up costing more through breakages than hiring the professionals.
Conclusion. Moving yourself is the cheapest removal option but, is it worth it? Due to the stress and effort involved, most people will only move themselves once. It is not recommended.
Hiring a Man and van is more expensive than moving yourself but, you don't have to go through the rigmarole of hiring or paying for a van and all the problems that come with it.
The Man & Van service is great for single items up to moving a whole 2 bedroom flat (We don't recommend using a man and van for bigger jobs) Often, a man and van company can offer you a second person so that you don't have to work yourself also, they are more likely to be insured.
The problem is that unless you choose wisely, you may end up hiring someone with little knowledge of the trade or someone whose van is too small to do the job right, the price they charge is usually the key to knowing how god they are, you really need to avoid the cheapest ones.
We offer a man & van (Or 2 men) service too but we use the same fully trained staff that we use for our regular removal service plus the vans we use are some of the largest in the market.
Pros. Cheap Removal and you don't have to rely on friends and family to help you move. The man with a van should be experienced and know exactly how to get your move done with the minimum amount of fuss.
Cons. You will possibly still need to help with the move as a lot of items are two person lifts. You most likely only be given a removal day rather than a time. Due to the van size, you might have to do a few trips which can affect how long it takes to get the job done. You can't guarantee how much time your move will take and therefore how much it will cost.
Conclusion. Great for smaller moves with no time constraints and a lot easier than moving by yourself plus, you should be able save yourself some money.
